----------------------------------------- Half-QWERTY One-handed Keyboard Software Demo ----------------------------------------- This is a demonstration of a new keyboard software utility that allows typists to touch-type with one hand on a standard keyboard, using their existing typing skills. Press the page down key or the down arrow key to scroll through this document. After reading the first few screens, you will actually be able to touch-type within this document using one hand! The ability to touch-type with one hand has many advantages: - It is a cost effective way to make touch-typing accessible to people with special needs. - It allows you to edit text with one hand while using the cursor keys or a mouse in the other hand. (This is useful to edit documents quickly). - It frees your other hand to make numeric keypad entries, write notes with a pen, eat, hold a telephone, etc. The design builds on a user's ability to touch-type with one hand on a standard QWERTY keyboard, and the fact that human hands are symmetrical: one hand is a mirror image of the other. A Half-QWERTY keyboard is comprised of all the keys typed by one hand, with the keys of the other hand absent. When the space bar is depressed, the missing characters are mapped onto the remaining keys in a mirror image, such that the typing hand makes movements analogous to those previously performed by the other hand. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Press the ESC key now to see a visual display of the keyboard in one-handed mode. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
